SOUND TIGERS WALK FOR CURE AGAINST CANCER
May 29, 2008
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Storm, the team’s official mascot, will participate in the 2008 Relay for Life of Fairfield on Saturday June 7th. The Sound Tigers’ Booster Club will join forces with the “Our Brightest Stars” team to help raise awareness in the fight against cancer. The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Fairfield Ludlowe High School track and continues into Sunday morning with activities such as the Survivor Reception, luminaria lighting, and the opening ceremonies.
Relay For Life is an American Cancer Society signature event that takes place overnight at local schools, fairgrounds, and parks. Relay participants help raise money and awareness to support the American Cancer Society in its lifesaving mission to eliminate cancer.
"Many of the people we know are afflicted with this horrible disease. When you actively get involved in this event it makes you feel like you are doing something to honor those we have lost and celebrate with the people who are still surviving,” 2nd Vice President of the Booster Club, Debbie Lietuvinkas said. “Everyone has a story to tell about someone they know who has had or is currently suffering from cancer and we know that our entire team effort will help many people."
For the last five years the Sound Tigers’ Booster Club has participated in numerous Relay for Life events and are inviting all fans to join in the effort to raise money for a cure against cancer.
There are numerous opportunities for fans to become involved in the relay, whether it is creating a team, donating to an existing team, or purchasing a luminaria.
For more information on how to get involved in Relay for Life or how to make a donation to one of the existing teams please visit the Relay for Life of Fairfield website .
